Art in nature June 22, 2014 flamencoblog Leave a comment Kia and Oliver study the lines and patterns on the natural materials they collected on our reward day last term. Oliver Jay and Jon have used good observation skills to show the patterns and textures on the leaves, seeds and bark they chose to sketch. Alexis has created a lovely 3D artwork using her natural materials. Oliver also created his own 3D artwork.

Booderee Botanical Gardens Visit June 22, 2014 flamencoblog Leave a comment We began our visit in the nursery where the seeds are first planted and looked after. And here they were! They were huge! It was really interesting to see how big they can grow! Snake whistles (Dianella) were fun to find but sometimes tricky to blow. We worked out that they needed to be fresh and hollow in the middle. Kane explained that the ‘Snake Whistle’ plant was used to attract snakes by indigenous communities! Attracting snakes has never been so much fun! Kane also showed us a plant ( a type of Tea Tree) that had leaves that felt exactly like sand paper. We tasted the fruit of the Lily Pily. What an amazing taste! It made your mouth go really squishy . It was juicy after you chewed it. There was a plant that even had an almond type of seed that we ate. It was a really ‘hard nut to crack’! Jay and Oliver felt the bark on the Paperbark tree. It was a really tall tree.
